Many years ago in Jr. High, I took a liking to making things in print. Tangible print with ink from a printing press. Later I got involved in what would be called Desktop Publishing. The same type of practice with a laser printer. I still have a version of that system more for nostalgia. Recently I saw a need in some of my hobbies for printed information and decided after along hiatus from printer ownership to try to a low cost printer. This lead to a review of current software offerings in publishing, looking at my previous photography and current inherited photography set up, looking into photo editing, and mid and high level printed output. It was quite a rabbit hole. That said here is what came out of it.

I enjoy the art of layout and the specific use of fonts. I think this was reignited when I fond the movie Design Is One.

It highlighted to thoughtful use of fonts. In one of my hobbies I am working with someone that has along career in commercial design and has a clean, quick and well communicated aesthetic. This has driven me dabble in print layout again. I maintain a few web sites and applied all of these design philosophies in virtual media, but it has lead me to understand my connection to printed physical media. I have seen this too in others in my age category. A physical magazine is more impactful that a digital one on line. This is my take on it. Also, I have some thing to read even if the power goes out.
